ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (INP-WealthPK): In order to keep Pakistani goods competitive on the global market, the government is concentrating on increasing industrial productivity through the effective and optimal use of resources to lower input costs.
This was stated by Alamgir Chaudhry, chief executive officer of the National Productivity Organization (NPO), during a seminar on ‘Implementation of Energy Efficiency Improvement – Competitive Reinforcement Initiative. “
He emphasised the approaches and strategies for addressing the difficulties the industry has in raising productivity. He believed that using resources effectively and efficiently would boost industrial production.
Alamgir Chaudhry believed that local industry needs to concentrate on and enhance three key areas, namely energy efficiency, technology, and human resources, in its practises, operations, and management systems. He noted that by improving these three crucial aspects, Pakistani mercantile will be able to carve out a position for itself in the global market and boost production at competitive input costs.
According to Asif Ali Farrukh, Managing Director of Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), the provincial government launched the Competitive Reinforcement Initiative (CRI) with the primary goal of giving medium-sized and export-oriented industries technical and other support so that they could compete in the global market.
“In this innovative project, we have at first focused on four industrial clusters, i.e. auto parts, footwear, surgical and supports. In this connection, we have held awareness sessions for representatives of these industrial units,” he said, asserting that the NPO, under the Federal Ministry of Industries and Production, is partnering with the PSIC for the purpose.
In this first such session, the stakeholders were informed about adopting energy efficiency mechanisms to significantly reduce the cost of energy. This would not only lower their overall input costs but also allow them to be competitive in global trade, in addition to increasing their profit margins, he said.
Asif Ali said that, in a manner, this initiative will also advance ideas of the knowledge economy in the regional sector, particularly that which is export-oriented. In order to make the effort a success, he also asked for the industrialists’ help, noting that the CRI’s reach will be expanded to include other industries as well.
Earlier, Senior Energy Auditor Hammad Altaf spoke about “Importance of Energy Efficiency in Industries- Success Stories,” and Keynote Speaker Muhammad Hamza Latif gave a presentation on “Project Brief-Energy Efficiency” to the audience.
According to Hamza Latif, the world is quickly converting to energy-efficient resources for industrial development and expansion, and Pakistan likewise needs to embrace energy-efficient manufacturing methods. It would aid Pakistan in maintaining its export market competitiveness.
In three phases, he said, the NPO has completed 217 energy saving initiatives in the textile sector.
