CPPA seeks 24-paisa hike in power tariff

ISLAMABAD, November 23, (INP-WealthPK): A 24-paisa hike per unit in power tariff has been sought by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) for the month of October under the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for WAPDA distribution companies.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has received the notification from the CPPA-G which stated that the actual cost of the per unit of power tariff has been PKR9.4162, whereas the reference fuel charges were PKR9.175 per unit for the month of October.

It further elaborated that a total of 10,704.94 GWh of electricity was generated for the month of October with a total cost PKR96.567 billion, while a total of 10,377.26 GWh of electricity was supplied to the power distribution companies known as DISCOS.

To the total generation of electricity 29.37% was contributed by hydel sources, 15.47% by coal, 1.46% by furnace oil, 12.11% from local gas, 17.22% from RLNG, 20.61% from nuclear sources and 2.08% from wind.

The decision on the petition by NEPRA will be taken in a meeting on November 29, 2022. The impact of the proposed increased will be delegated to all categories of consumers except lifeline.
