ISLAMABAD, Nov 01 (INP-WealthPK): The National Productivity Organization (NPO) Pakistan has been turned around from a loss-making company to a profitable entity in just three years.

“NPO Pakistan (has) generated record revenues ever in its history,” NPO Chief Executive Officer Alamgir Chaudhry said while briefing the Federal Parliamentary Secretary Industries & Production Division Dr Syeda Shahida Rehmani.

Alamgir said that APO Japan and NPO Pakistan are closely working together for productivity improvement in Pakistan and that APO is playing a major role in promoting productivity drive in the region. He added that APO’s services are reorienting to the requirements of the current era of competitiveness both in the domestic and global markets. They are supporting the export sector in enhancing competitiveness and yielding higher productivity in the country.

The CEO explained that the rise in production costs is a serious issue due to which Pakistani products cannot find their place in global markets. Without improving competitiveness, it would be hard to compete globally and locally, he said, expressing the need to focus on the reasons why Pakistan runs low on productivity.

There is a strong need to create awareness of the emerging need for improved productivity, Muhammad said. He added that Singapore, South Korea, Japan, China, and Malaysia are a few examples that transformed their economies based on improved competitiveness, generally improved productivity, and innovative strategies.

The CEO said that among the other key success factors are top leadership commitment and massive campaigns, which are the basic requirements for bringing higher productivity.

He informed the Parliamentary Secretary about the upcoming Mega Project of the National Productivity Master Plan (NPMP) being developed by the Korean Development Institute.

On the occasion, Dr Shahida Rehmani recognised the critical role of NPO in improving competitiveness and productivity in industry, the service sector, and effective public governance.

She stressed the need to improve productivity and competitiveness to remain competitive both in local and global markets. She assured that the Ministry of Industries and Production would support NPO in its efforts to enhance productivity.
