ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (INP-WealthPK): Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Hussain Jahania Gardizi has said that the government is taking steps to increase agricultural productivity and improve crop quality.
The minister stated this while talking to Head of Commercialisation and Scaling (Harvest Plus Washington) Jenny Walton and the Agahe Foundation’s delegation.
The meeting discussed eliminating zinc deficiency in women, children and youth through a balanced food supply, in addition to the bio-fortification of wheat. The meeting participants agreed to continue efforts to promote bio-fortification in rice and maize in addition to wheat.
Jahania Gardizi said that digitalisation is being introduced in the agricultural sector and in this regard, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi has established a smart farm. Jenny Walton is striving for the promotion of fortified, iron and zinc-rich varieties of food in underdeveloped countries.
The minister said that social awareness is being raised in rural areas for food fortification and daily consumption of balanced food. Pakistani scientists and researchers are working on introducing fortified varieties of wheat and hybrid seed supply to farmers, he added.
