ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (INP-WealthPK): The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) are deploying an advanced technology to prevent traffic violations and protect people from accidents, reports WealthPK.
Talking to WealthPK, an NHMP official said, “The top priority of the Motorway Police has always been to provide the best services to the public on the motorways. Most road accidents resulting in fatalities occur due to negligence or traffic violations. To prevent these violations and to save lives, the NHMP under the supervision of IG Khalid Mahmood have launched the “No More Traffic Violations” initiative.
“Under this campaign, we will take different steps to identify the violators. Before this initiative, the vehicles were not chased. But now motorists will face heavy fines for speeding and patrol officers have been instructed to chase and detain the violators if required. With the use of intelligently deployed spotters, next-generation speed cameras, and drone cameras, the violators will be identified and prosecuted,” he added.
“It means high-definition hand-carried cameras are now available to our cops. The violator will not be able to see exactly where the camera-equipped police officer is positioned. The high-definition cameras can even record the license plate number of the offending car and report it to the authorities concerned, so no violators can escape the exit because our police will capture them there,” he added.
“One more measure we’ll take to stop violations is to get access to the trackers that are installed in the public transportation vehicles, such as buses. So, if a driver exceeds the speed limit, the tracker will alert us at our headquarters, and we’ll issue him a challan. We won’t need to chase any vehicle because we can issue challans while seated in our headquarters,” he said.
He said dozing while driving was one of the causes of serious accidents. In order to overcome this issue, the NHMP are considering introducing an inexpensive anti-dozing gadget that the drivers will insert into their ears to stay awake, he added. The device will keep the drivers alert to prevent tragic accidents.
“Another project we’re considering is installing dashboard cameras in all large buses or fleets, which will record the driver’s every move. There will be proper control rooms for this monitoring. If the driver feels sleepy or lowers his head, the system will immediately detect it, inform the control room, and bleep,” he added.
He said, “Still, it will take a lot of time to get fully advanced in the latest technology. The huge network of highways connecting different Pakistani cities continues to be poorly managed due to a lack of advanced equipment, training, and infrastructure.”
