ISLAMABAD, October 20 (INP-WealthPK): Malnutrition has become a problem for populations of developing countries around the world and it therefore is important that nutritional biochemistry should be studied and utilized to avert its bad effects.

The statement was made by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while opening the one-day symposium on nutritional biochemistry, organised jointly by the Department of Biochemistry and the Faculty of Food Nutrition & Home Sciences.

“Food insecurity led to higher food prices. This led to malnutrition since parents of poor families could not afford to properly feed their children. Therefore agriculture department should work to improve agricultural productivity by adopting modern methods of tilling and harvesting to prevent such a happening,” the VC said.

The importance of nutritional balance was highlighted by the Executive Member of Pakistan Science Academy Islamabad Prof Dr Anwar-ul-Hassan Gilani. He said that people should use more vegetables and fruits in their diets. Relying too much on fast foods and ready-to-cook items makes a healthy person ill.
