Excise starts vehicles’ physical inspection via digital App

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (ABC):The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department Monday started physical inspection of vehicles through a mobile ‘App’ being brought to the office for registration or transferred purpose. The initiative was aimed at ensuring physical presence of the vehicle at the time of inspection to eliminate misappropriation, Director Excise Bialal Azam told.

The excise officer on examination, he said would take a photo of the vehicles’ chassis number and send the same to the integrated system via using digital ‘App’ to confirm the physical inspection on the other side. The director has appealed the citizens to extend cooperation with the excise teams by ensuring their vehicles’ presence at the time of inspection. Since 2019, he said inspection and biometric verification was made mandatory for registering a new vehicle, or transfer.

Divulging details of the vehicles’ registration and transfer process, he said once an applicant visited the office, he was issued a Form F and Fee challan after inspection of documents including biometric receipt.[The form would have details of the owner and the car]. After the payment of Fee challan at National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) booth or through City Islamabad App the applicant was required to submit the documents at the designated window. The excise official re-examine the documents and issue a registration number (Number Plates is issued for New Number) amid vehicle examination physically via digital App.

This rule was applicable to all locally made cars, imported cars and auctioned cars too.The designated inspector would validate the vehicle’s information and award it a fitness certificate valid till a certain date. Later after reconfirmation of vehicles’ physical inspection through excise system the further process is initiated for printing of card in National and Database Registration Authority (NADRA).

The applicant is issued smart card on showing original registration receipt after 10 days of the documents’ submission. It is pertinent to mentioned that in Islamabad, the registration of a vehicle consists of the registration fee, advance tax, token tax, income tax and, if the vehicle in question is a commercial one, then professional tax as well.
