BEIJING, July 29(ABC): “China is ready to continue to do its utmost to provide help to local social development and livelihood improvement”, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on a regular press conference in response to a question regarding Balochistan receiving a new relief package from China against heavy rains, reported on Thursday.
“I have noted that the monsoon has brought rounds of torrential rains to the Balochistan Province in Pakistan, causing flood disaster”, he said.
As Pakistan’s good friend sharing weal and woe together, China has delivered to the disaster-stricken areas a batch of urgently-needed food packages, small power generation equipment and other humanitarian supplies to help the local people overcome the difficulties.
“We believe that the Pakistani government and people will pull through and rebuild from the disaster at an early date”, the FM spokesperson said.
According to report, about 800 to 1,000 food packs were distributed among the families living in the makeshift camps in the Qila Saifullah district, Balochistan.
Around 300 pieces of solar panels were also provided as the current rains destroyed electricity lines in many areas, leaving people without electricity for days.
According to the latest available data by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released on July 26, a total of 337 people had been killed and 370 others injured due to different rain-related accidents in Pakistan since June 14.
Balochistan remained the worst hit by rains, where 104 people were killed and 61 others injured in separate rain-triggered accidents, said the NDMA report.
