LAHORE, June03(ABC): Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday while lashing out at the incumbent government over hike in fuel prices has given a call for peaceful protest on Friday.
In a series of tweets on social networking website Twitter, the former prime minister wrote, “Imported govt has increased petroleum prices by 40 percent or Rs 60 per litre. This will increase burden on the public by Rs 900 billion and increase the prices basic necessities.”
He added that an increase of Rs 8 in the power tariff would come as a shock to the entire country and the inflation rate could reach 30 percent, the highest in 75 years.
Imran Khan said that the PTI government endured constant pressure during the outbreak of Coronavirus and gave an economic relief package of Rs 1200 billion to the people.
The former PM said this year we have reduced the sales tax to zero percent and also provided an energy subsidy of Rs 466 billion for the protection of our people, adding that our people have always been our priority.
