PTI protests hit public life in twin cities

ISLAMABAD, Nov 8n (FD): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers Tuesday continued their protest in different areas of Rawalpindi against the assassination attempt on their party chairman Imran Khan.

The protesters simultaneously blocked the traffic headed to Faizabad from Murree Road and from the IJP Road to Islamabad.

PTI activists also blocked the road leading to Islamabad International Airport (IIA) by burning tyres.

Due to the closure of main entry points between the twin cities, a massive traffic jam was seen at several points,  after some time entry points were opened for a short time after protesters dispersed.

The twin city visibly came to a halt with sporadic traffic jams on main and connecting roads..

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police have warned PTI protesters that it would register cases against them if they disrupted law and order and did not protest ‘peacefully’.

The masses are also requested to report any suspicious activities to the police.

Though the City Traffic Police had put in place some diversions to facilitate traffic during the PTI protest, their efforts proved to be unproductive. On the other hand, the CTP issued an advisory for the public to avoid inconvenience and requested people to travel to Gulzar-i-Quaid and old Airport Road.

A traffic police spokesman said that traffic was being diverted towards alternative routes due to the protest. Additional personnel were also deployed along with diversion arrangements to keep traffic flowing at protest sites, said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, the capital police called Sindh police and paramilitary troops within a day after PTI announced to continue the long march.
