Work on SEZs in Sindh needs to be sped-up: Official

ISLAMABAD, Nov 01, (INP-WealthPK): Authorities in Sindh province have been directed by the Federal Secretary Board of Investment (BOI) Asad Rehman Gilani to resolve all issues pertaining to the special economic zones (SEZ). He said that timely completion of the SEZs is important for economic activity to retake flight and create jobs. “A workable environment should be created for local as well as international investors,” he said.

Many investors from Saudi Arabia, China, and Turkiye are waiting eagerly to come into Pakistan and invest here. They only need a conducive working environment which will be made possible after the timely completion and effective operationalization of the SEZs. He was talking to a meeting of Board of Investment Regional Office, Karachi.

He issued instructions to resolve all problems being faced by the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone and the Bin Qasim Special Economic Zone. “After that an environment should be created where investors feel free and safe to invest,” he said.

“Pakistan’s future is linked to the development of special economic zones. Many more SEZs will be established in the country to facilitate investment and create industrial hubs. Close coordination between representative bodies of businesses and industrialists like the FPCCI, KCCI and OICC is very important for the timely completion of the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone,” he said.

During the meeting progress was also reviewed on the SEZs being established in Sindh. The meeting was also attended by Secretary of Sindh Investment Department Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi, CEO of Sindh Economic Zone Management Company Azeem Uqaili, and other officials of the Special Economic Zone Authority, and Board of Investment.
