ISLAMABAD, Oct 31, (INP-WealthPK): The government of Pakistan has been urged to educate and persuade the people to use alternative resources of energy for fulfilling household needs to tackle industrial requirements, WealthPK reports.
Addressing a seminar, Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Meher Kashif Younis said that in most of the developed countries, a single energy source is provided at the domestic and commercial levels to make the best use of the commodity for industrial and agricultural sectors.
The seminar titled ‘Use of Energy for Economic Growth’ was organised by the Gold Ring Economic Forum.
Meher Kashif said that in Pakistan, power and gas are supplied at a household level. He said that it is hampering economic growth, especially during the peak of the winter season. Over the years, the gas has been used quite injudiciously of which 50 percent was consumed by household consumers, depriving the industry of its major share.
He said that 78 percent of domestic households have no access to natural gas in Pakistan. Domestic sector gas consumption has grown 11 percent over the years, showing maximum growth among all sectors.
Meher Kashif urged the government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of energy to industry and agriculture sectors, followed by commercial and domestic consumers as practiced globally to strengthen the fragile economy.
“Industry is the backbone of the economy and all-out incentives are offered to industry to contribute to accelerating economic growth and social development. The industry is the engine of growth and power and gas are its lifeline,” he said, according to a press release received by WealthPK.
