ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (INP-WealthPK): The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) organised a seminar on the “Ravi Dost” campaign at FAST University aimed at highlighting the RUDA’s initiatives and establishing a public awareness matrix for the upcoming city alongside River Ravi.

During the seminar, RUDA Executive Director (Commercial) Kashif Qureshi briefed the university students on the authority’s objectives, including multiple-dimensional projects like riverside establishment of forestation, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and waste to energy projects.

While answering questions, RUDA’s hydrology director said, “More than 1,000 cusecs of contaminated water is pumped out into the river each day from the WWTP located at several places along the River Ravi in Mahmud Booti, Shadbagh and Shahdara.” The WWTPs will have modern infrastructure, ensuring effective management and cleanliness of water, he added.

He said that water in the River Ravi would not only be restored but also be put to good use, providing a number of jobs for engineers.

The seminar panellists, quoting an international report, said the Ravi has been declared one of the most polluted rivers in the world and agricultural products from this water would be unhealthy for the people.

Head of the Engineering Department Dr Shahid acknowledged the panellists’ efforts in dispelling the negative perception of RUDA in matters related to land acquisition and its environmental impact.
